OUR PHILOSOPHY

Why Ingredients Matter

We believe quality begins long before a product is made. Because of that, we seek ingredients that are responsibly sourced, thoughtfully grown, and selected with care. While botanical preparations have been valued for generations, we believe every good gift ultimately comes from the Father who created them. Our goal is simple: create products with ingredients we would confidently use for our own families.

Throughout history, herbalists carefully observed the plants around them, noting which botanicals were consistently incorporated into preparations intended for discomfort, strain, recovery, skin care, and physical well-being. The herbs we choose are not random additions to a formula; they are plants that earned a place in traditional herbalism through generations of observation and use.

COMFREY

Symphytum officinale

A Plant With a Long History

Comfrey is a perennial herb in the borage family, native to Europe and recognizable by its broad, textured leaves, bristled stems, and clusters of drooping bell-shaped flowers. Long before modern pharmacology, herbalists studied and used plants like comfrey as part of their everyday medicinal practices. Its unique chemistry, combined with its long history of use, has made comfrey one of the most recognized botanicals in traditional herbalism.

Why We Use It

Comfrey has long been included in traditional topical herbal preparations and was often applied to areas of physical strain and discomfort. Sometimes referred to as ‘knitbone’, the plant contains many naturally occurring compounds such as allantoin, which is associated with supporting tissue repair, as well as mucilage and rosmarinic acid —compounds that have contributed to its longstanding reputation among herbalists.

At Abide Botanicals, we believe that history is worth preserving—not as a promise of what a modern product can do, but as part of the larger story of how people have learned from and worked with God's creation.

How We Prepare It

We use dried comfrey root to make a slow botanical infusion in organic olive oil. This infusion becomes part of the botanical foundation of the salves and balms we create.

CALENDULA

Calendula officinalis

A Plant With a Long History

Calendula is a flowering herb in the daisy family, recognized by its vibrant golden-orange blossoms and long blooming season. Native to the Mediterranean region, it has been cultivated in gardens and apothecaries for centuries and remains one of the most widely recognized herbs in traditional Western herbalism.

Why We Use It

For generations, herbalists incorporated calendula flowers into oils, salves, and botanical preparations intended to care for the skin. The flowers contain naturally occurring compounds including flavonoids, triterpenes, carotenoids, and aromatic constituents, which have contributed to calendula's enduring place in traditional herbal practice.

At Abide Botanicals, we value calendula not only for its rich history but also for the example it provides of careful observation passed from one generation to the next. Its longstanding role in herbal preparations and its bright, cheerful blossoms make it one of our favorite botanicals to work with.

How We Prepare It

We slowly infuse dried calendula flowers into organic olive oil. The resulting golden infusion becomes part of the botanical foundation of our salves and other preparations.

YARROW

Achillea millefolium

A Plant With a Long History

Yarrow is a hardy flowering herb recognized by its delicate, feathery leaves and clusters of tiny white blossoms. Native to Europe and Asia, it can now be found growing throughout much of North America—perhaps even in your own backyard. For centuries, yarrow has held a respected place in traditional herbal medicine, becoming one of the most widely used and valued herbs in the traditional herbalist's toolkit.

Why We Use It

Yarrow contains a variety of naturally occurring plant compounds, including flavonoids, tannins, volatile oils, and sesquiterpene lactones. These constituents have contributed to the plant's enduring reputation within traditional herbal medicine and its historical association with topical preparations intended for minor skin irritations and everyday botanical care. Sometimes referred to as "The Soldier's Herb," yarrow has been valued by herbalists for generations and remains one of the most recognizable plants in Western herbal traditions.

At Abide Botanicals, yarrow represents more than an ingredient. It is a reminder that people have spent centuries observing, learning from, and stewarding the plants around them. We value that tradition and seek to honor it through thoughtful formulation and responsible preparation. We believe that studying creation can lead us to a greater appreciation of its Creator, and yarrow is one of many plants that inspires that sense of wonder.

How We Prepare It

We slowly infuse dried yarrow into organic olive oil using a traditional herbal infusion process. This infusion becomes part of the botanical foundation of the salves and balms we create.
